Section Section Modulus ($Z_x$) Weight (kg/m)
ISMC 125 70.3 cm³ 12.7 kg/m
ISMC 150 105.1 cm³ 16.8 kg/m
ISMC 200 194.7 cm³ 22.1 kg/m
ISMC 250 304.5 cm³ 30.7 kg/m
ISMC 300 450.4 cm³ 35.8 kg/m
ISMC 350 625.6 cm³ 42.1 kg/m
ISMC 400 835.3 cm³ 49.4 kg/m

Important Design Note: ISMC vs. Fabricated Box

While ISMC sections are suitable for light-duty cranes (e.g., 1-3 tons), they are very weak against twisting (torsional) forces. For heavier cranes (5 tons and above) or long wheelbases, it is **strongly recommended** to use a **fabricated box section**. A box is thousands of times more rigid against twisting, making it far safer and more durable. You can still use this calculator to find the minimum $Z_x$ your fabricated box must be designed to have.
